Brazil seeks more gas

Petrobras uses new assessments to estimate Brazil's gas reserves.

New assessments convinced Brazil’s Petrobras to conclude the nation’s gas reserves could reach 35 Tcf, or more than three times to 11 Tcf listed under official estimates. According to Ogilvie’s E&P DailyLido Sauer, director of Petrobras gas and energy, said, “These discoveries haven’t yet been made public, because they haven’t been declared to the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels.” Brazil produces 1.6 Bcf/d of gas and imports another 900 MMcf/d from Bolivia. In light of Bolivia’s threatened takeover of Petrobras properties in that country, Brazil would like to add more in-country production, particularly since it estimates demand will grow to 3.9 Bcf/d by 2010.
