Victoria Petroleum strikes oil in South Australian Cooper Basin

Published Aug 20, 2008

Victoria Petroleum’s Growler-4 development well on the PRL 15 permit in the South Australian Cooper Basin struck the targeted Birkhead formation and has shows of oil.

Victoria operates the Growler project and said the Birkhead formation had been struck as expected at a depth of 5,650ft (1,722m) and oil shows and elevated gas readings were observed over an interval of 59ft (18m). The company said the shows were similar to those seen while drilling the Growler-1 and Growler-2 wells, but the signifi¬cance of the shows would only be known after the well was logged after reaching total depth.
