Canadian duo Challenger Energy and Canadian Superior and partner BG have firmed up a gas discovery after positive production tests on the Bounty exploration well in Intrepid Block 5(c) offshore Trinidad & Tobago.
The Bounty well was drilled to a total depth of 17,360ft (5,291m) and encountered gas-bearing horizons, with the main targeted zone in the well holding around 200ft (61m) of pay.
Challenger said initial test results indicate that the Bounty well is capable of producing at a rate of 200 MMcf/d (5.67 MMcm/d) from the high pressure zone. Reserves are estimated at around 2.6 Tcf (73.7 Bcm). The Bounty discovery is the second gas find the partners have made this year on Block 5(c).
Work is now underway to demobilise the testing equipment, suspend the Bounty well for production at a later date, and move the Kan Tan IV semi-submersible drilling rig to drill a third exploration well, Endeavour, on the block. This well should be spudded by the end of the month.
