Japan’s Inpex has made a gas discovery with the Mimia-1 exploration well in the Browse Basin off¬shore Australia – with development options being considered.
Inpex is operator of the WA-344-P concession with a 60% stake, while Total has the remaining 40% stake. The partners took the block in Nov¬ember 2007 and completed the Mimia-1 well in July.
The well found a 236ft (72m) column and a pro¬duction test confirmed the discovery of gas and condensate. Mimia-1 was drilled in a water depth of 833ft (254m) and lies 20km northeast of the Inpex¬operated WA-285-P (Inpex 76%, Total 24%), which contains the huge Ichthys gas-condensate field.
