Faroe Petroleum will embark on a six-well exploration program offshore Norway in August. The company plans to carry out the program over the next two years, and has already secured rigs for the operations. The Marsvin (Faroe 14%) well is slated to spud next month in exploration license PL289 using the Maersk Guardian jackup. Located on the southwest portion of the Sogne Graben, this Upper Jurassic oil prospect straddles the borders of Norway and Denmark. The South East Tor and Hyme exploration wells are in PL006c, and are slated to start in October with Faroe holding a 10% interest. The Grosso exploration well in PL376 is expected to begin toward the end of the year. The company reported that a 3-D seismic survey has been conducted for its PL433 (Fogelberg, Faroe 15%), PL477 (Cooper, Faroe 30%), and PL478 (Manilow, Faroe 30%) in the Norwegian Sea. The first Fogelberg well is scheduled for the end of 2009 using the West Alpha rig. Centrica will act as operator for all three Norwegian Sea licenses covering a 270 sq-mile (700-sq-km) area.
