ExxonMobil and BHP Billiton have announced their joint US $1.4 billion dollar Turrum development project in the Bass Strait offshore southeast Australia – with a new platform required.
The development concept for Turrum is based upon the construction of a new platform, Marlin B, bridge-linked to the existing Marlin A platform in the Bass Strait.
Some modification on the Marlin A platform will be required for the installation of the bridge and new equipment.
The platform will process additional oil production and gas which will be piped back to existing facilities at Longford.
It is anticipated that construction will begin in 2009. Oil production is expected in 2011 and first gas sales are expected from 2015.
The Turrum field holds approximately 1 Tcf (28.3 Bcm) of gas and 110m bbl of oil and gas liquids.
